Darlene Rustad

(Mae) Darlene Rustad was born May 26, 1929, in the Bismarck, North Dakota Hospital. She was born to George and Severina (Susie Oien) Ims. At the age of 6 weeks Darlene and her mother were able to leave the Bismarck hospital and take the train to Almont, North Dakota, their home. Darlene had 5 older siblings waiting to see her for the first time. In November of 1929, Darlene’s parents moved their family from Almont, North Dakota to the farm in Sogn, Urland area of Minnesota. This is where Darlene grew up. She went to a one room school District #52.

In June of 1949 Darlene married Irven O. Rustad. He passed away in January of 2008.

Darlene baked, cooked – made bird suet. She liked feeding birds. Darlene always had a small garden and would can and freeze. She loved doing things with her 3 children. Darlene worked in the Cannon Falls School System for many years as one of the cooks. Darlene had been a den mother for Cub Scouts, also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She also worked at “Princess Soft Toys”. She had sewn many “Slurps”. She then went to work at GT Sheldahl in Northfield and worked there for 25 years.

Darlene moved to Prior Lake to live with her daughter 6 years ago, to be close to all of her children.

Survivors include her children Richard Rustad of Prior Lake, Les Rustad of Burnsville, and Beverlee Rustad of Prior Lake; as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irven, and five siblings.

Memorials are preferred to St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church or Urland Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 1:00 pm at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church, 7459 Hwy 19 Blvd, Cannon Falls, MN 55009. There will be a visitation, also at the church, from 12-1:00pm prior to the service. Interment will be in the Urland Lutheran Cemetery. Lundberg Funeral Home of Cannon Falls is assisting the family.
