Daniel William O’Reilly (69) passed away on August 13, 2010, after a brave battle with cancer.
He was born on February 18, 1941, in Redwing, Minnesota, to Joseph and Mary Catherine (Heaney) O’Reilly. He was the second oldest of ten children.
His passions were his children, antique collecting, telling family stories, working on inventions and new concepts, and politics. He was a father, grandfather, English teacher, inventor, antique collector and business owner. In 1973, he and his father, Joseph, invented a successful hydraulic manure spreader that was later patented and sold to the John Deere Company. He was co-owner of O’Reilly Manufacturing (OR/Bilt), and later sole owner of a metal fabrication company. Dan was very creative, and will always be remembered for building a stone house with his children and designing an innovative, battery-powered electric cart that the children enjoyed riding in rural Goodhue. Thinking “outside the box” came natural to him.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Joann (Hilan), and two brothers, Bernard and Charles.
He is survived by his children, Yolanda O’Reilly, Natalia (Willard) Holm, Magdalena (Greg Wilmes) O’Reilly, Xiomara (James) Bell, Liza O’Reilly, Sean O’Reilly, and Kevin O’Reilly; his siblings, Margaret (Don) Ferber, Paul (Cathy), Geraldine (Tim) Casey, Roger (Karen), David (Mary Jo), and Steven (Bev); sister-in-law, Patrice; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
