Colleen JoAnn (Van Guilder) Schulz, 77, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2019 at Northfield Care Center.
Colleen was born in Stanton Township, MN, on May 15, 1942 to Darrell and Berdella (Hougo) Van Guilder. She was proud to be from Cannon Falls, where she lived for most of her life. She married Fred Schulz on Sept 16, 1967. She gave birth to her son Rusty in 1964 and her daughter Becky in 1968. She worked several secretarial and bookkeeping jobs until her retirement in 1998, giving her more time to focus on her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Cannon Falls, where she volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and altar guild. She enjoyed crafts, ceramics, cooking, and playing cards with her many friends at Park Street Apartments, where she spent the last several years of her life.
Colleen’s leadership skills and community involvement were best seen through her volunteering with Girl Scouts, which spanned over 60 years, becoming a lifetime member in 1997. She spent countless hours dedicating her time to helping teach girls to be courageous, confident, and to make the world a better place.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Fred Schulz; her parents; and her brother Morris Van Guilder.
She is survived by her daughters, Becky Braun (Eric Hedican) and Rene (Steve) Bailey; her son, Rusty (Teresa) Schulz; her brother, Arlie Van Guilder; grandchildren, Rusty Schulz Jr, Elizabeth Schulz, Marcus Schulz, Katie (Jarod) Gengler, Nikki Braun, Susan (Brian) Yates, Sharon Prothe, Melissa (Brook) Westcott, and Jessica McFarland; and many great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18 from 4-7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. A memorial service will be on Wednesday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m., with vistiaton from 10-11 a.m., at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Cannon Falls. A private interment will be held at Cherry Valley Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
