Charlotte Anne (nee Cope) Venn, age 80 of Cannon Falls and formerly of Cook and Faribault, died on Tuesday morning, March 10, 2009 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, where she has been residing the past four years.
Charlotte was born on March 18, 1928 in Virginia, MN, the daughter of Fred and Esther (Hersh) Cope. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Virginia, graduating from Virginia High School in 1946. She attended Mankato State Teachers College, graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in teaching.
She married Bernard John “Bernie” Venn on June 10, 1950 in Mankato, where they lived until 1956, when they moved to Faribault. During their time in Faribault, Char and Bernie raised four children. In 1980, they retired to rural Cook where she enjoyed building their log home, visiting with family and friends, caring for her pets and the local wildlife, playing the piano, reading, and walking their 36 acres of land.
Charlotte is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years, Bernard of Cannon Falls; their four children, Cheryl M. (Harvey) Winter of Faribault, Catherine E. (Timothy) McCartney of Grand Forks, ND, Michael D. (Kathleen) Venn of Lyle, and Barry S. (Mary Harkins) Venn of Cannon Falls; and ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Esther Cope; and only sibling, Hershel B. Cope.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, with Chaplain Jonathan Kruse officiating.
There will be visitation at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-7:00 p.m.
In Charlotte’s memory, gifts may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, Angels Care Center Chapel Fund, or Heartland Hospice.
