Charles Allen "Chuck" Durdahl, age 74 of Cannon Falls, died at his home on Wednesday morning, January 13, 2010.
Chuck was born on July 23, 1935 in Leon Township, the son of Elmer and Adeline (Anderson) Durdahl. He attended rural country school near Sogn, and went on to serve with the US Navy from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1957.
He married Ardis E. Anderson on July 19, 1958 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Goodhue. They made their home in Cannon Falls, and raised four children. Chuck worked as a truck driver for most of his working career; hauling hay, working for Fox Oil in Cannon Falls, and Searle Grain/Ag Partners from 1967-1999, with the last five years as manager. He retired from Ag Partners in 1999.
Chuck was a member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council and as head usher. He was a life member of the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452.
Chuck enjoyed fishing, gardening, mowing, reading, watching old-time country music videos, and had raised beef cattle for over 40 years. He loved spending time with his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Ardis; children, Robert (Kim) of Cannon Falls, Billy (Tammy) of Ramsey, Barbara (Cory) Franklin and Elizabeth (Darin) Ripley, all of Cannon Falls; eleven grandchildren, Erin (Chris) Boyd, Nathan, Shannon, Megan and JoVonne Ripley, Chanse Durdahl, Ryan and Bradi Smith, Makenzie Franklin, Lindsey and Haley Durdahl; two great-grandchildren, Cayden and Kendra Boyd; brothers and sisters, Donny (Myra) of Scottsdale, AZ, Carmen Leeson of Bloomington, Frank of Cannon Falls, Willie (Suzette) of N. St. Paul, and Mary (Lance) Staricha of Eagan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Adeline; brother, Marland; son-in-law, Danny Smith; granddaughter, Bryn Ripley; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, 7459 Hwy 19 Blvd, Cannon Falls, with Pastor Gary Schulz and Pastor Carol Sinykin officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 2-3 p.m.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society and the Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
