Cecil McNamara

Cecil Raymond McNamara, age 87 of Goodhue passed away on Monday morning, June 6, 2011. Cecil was born on November 18, 1923 in Red Wing, the son of Raymond and Leona (O'Reilly) McNamara. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1943 before serving in the United States Army. Cecil married Rita Mae Majerus on October 30, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester. They worked together farming and raising eleven children until Rita's death on January 4, 1989. Cecil was a lifelong member of St. Columbkill Catholic Church in Belle Creek Township where he was a member of the church council and cemetery board. He was also active in the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was an avid fan of high school wrestling. Cecil was a dedicated woodworker, spending over 40 years on his craft. He shared his gift with many, donating works to multiple community organizations. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, Patrick (Mary Jo), David and John McNamara of Goodhue, Mary (Michael), Angelia, Eve and Wesley Withers of Plainview, Robert (Janelle), Lisa, Cassie and Russell McNamara of Goodhue, Carmen McNamara of Rochester, Jerome McNamara of Zumbrota, Bernard (Sue), Stephanie McNamara of Zumbrota, Donna McNamara of Rochester, Earl (Lori), Monica, Ryne and Maggie McNamara of Zumbrota, Pauline (Patrick), Scott and Bonnie Morgan of Pine Island and Dennis (Mary Jo), Bret and Evan McNamara of Northfield; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Frances, Ralph, Charles and Raymond; sisters, Agnes, Marie, Florence and Rosamond; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Rita; parents; daughter, Diane and brother, Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Columbkill Catholic Church in Belle Creek Township, with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held at St. Columbkill Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 8 from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to service at church on Thursday. Interment will be held immediately following service at St. Columbkill Catholic Cemetery.
