Catherine Frances "Cathy" Thompson, age 79 of Cannon Falls died peacefully in her sleep on August 28, 2015 in Western Massachusetts. She was born on August 16, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN. Catherine is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melroy Gleonard "Mel" Thompson, who died on March 18, 2014. This year would mark their 49th wedding anniversary. Cathy would say, "I married the love of my life." Catherine was the birth daughter of Harold Kutz and Margaret (Schweich) O'Neil. She was raised by her uncle, John and aunt, Rosie (Schweich) Wagner and her grandmother, Frances Schweich. She graduated from Villa Maria Academy in Frontenac, MN with her high school diploma. She married Melroy Thompson in 1966 and became a member of Spring Garden Lutheran Church with her husband. As a dedicated wife and mother, she tirelessly worked on the farm in Cannon Falls Township alongside her husband, where they raised their 10 children together. Then, later in her life she took on additional responsibilities to help the farm business grow and her family prosper by working a fulltime factory job as a manufacturer finisher at Gemini Incorporated for more than 17 years. As a mother, Catherine was at her best. She was steadfast in her selfless dedication to nurture and provide for her children. She enjoyed cross-stitching baby blankets for all of her grandchildren and creating wonderful home-cooked meals for her husband and family. One of her favorite memories she recalls is when all the kids would come home for the holidays and share a meal together on the farm. She and Mel took pride in their love of family and all of what they accomplished together as hard working farmers. Catherine also enjoyed being a pen pal to friends around the world. Catherine has a smile that lights up the room; a sense humor that always makes you chuckle and warm embracing hugs that you will never forget. Over the years she and Mel were able to travel to different parts of the country through Gemini employee trips, including Alaska, Vancouver, Canada, New Orleans, LA and Nashville, TN. They also traveled to places to purchase horses, attend horse shows and visit family in New England and Angle Inlet, MN. Catherine will be remembered for her kind-hearted spirit and unselfishness. She is survived by her 10 children and their spouses/partners, Mark (Cathie) Freiermuth of Orville, WA, Kevin (Lynnell) Thompson of Cannon Falls, Edwin Freiermuth of Angle Inlet, MN, Deborah (Ed) Hall of Kellogg, Vicki Evenson (Danny Endres) of Hampton, Vonda (Joe) Brandl of Zimmerman, Eugene Freiermuth of Cannon Falls, Paula (Mike) Stoffel of Red Wing, Anne (Jeff) Harty of Cannon Falls and Chad (Phyllis) Thompson of Springfield, MA; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
