Caroline A. Himes, age 96, of Cannon Falls, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Centracare Health in Paynesville, Minnesota. Caroline Amanda Himes was born on May 17, 1920, in Dennison, the daughter of Lars and Marie (Njos) Berg. She was baptized and confirmed at the Urland Lutheran Church. Caroline attended country school through the eighth grade and then started work as a hired girl for farm families. She moved to Minneapolis, living there for a short time, and then returned to Cannon Falls where she lived and raised her family. Caroline was an active member of First English Lutheran Church. She did volunteer work for the Food Shelf and also for her church. She worked for a time at the Mineral Springs Sanatorium and then for Kid Duds. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, quilting, knitting and she especially loved spending time with her family. Caroline was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She liked to travel – highlights included a Caribbean cruise with her son Larry and a trip to Norway with her sister Louise. Survivors include her son Larry Himes of Little Falls, her daughter Linda Torres and fiancé Gary Scheierl of Paynesville, grandson Christopher (Molly) Torres of Buffalo, brother Oscar Berg of Cannon Falls, and sister Evelyn (Wally) Boser of Richfield, as well as many nieces and nephews. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ida Berg, Mabel Ploumen, Jeannette McFedries, Doris Gustafson, Marlene Mischke, and Louise Hagen; and her brothers Leonard, Ervin, and Donald Berg. Memorials are preferred to First English Lutheran Church.
