Carl “Harvey” Lundell, age 87, a lifelong resident of Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday morning, February 16, 2010 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Harvey was born on July 31, 1922 in Cannon Falls, the son of Carl and Florence (Holmes) Lundell. He graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1940, and went on to serve with the Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1945. He later served with the US Navy from 1948 until retiring on September 17, 1964.
Harvey married Virginia J. Schlick on March 7, 1947 at the First Congregational Church in Cannon Falls. Harvey continued his active membership, and enjoyed singing with the church choir.
Harvey had been employed at Sheldahl in Northfield for a short time, and later worked at Sperry Univac in Eagan. He was employed there for 15 years, retiring on October 1, 1981. Harvey was very active in the Cannon Falls community, and enjoyed helping others! He also enjoyed golf and horseshoes. He was a member of the Cannon Golf Club, and had been a member of the Cannon Falls Men’s Chorus. He was a 60 year member of the VFW Nelson Scofield Post #4452 where he served with the Honor Guard, and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association for 40 years. He also helped with the American Red Cross blood drives.
A loving, caring, and gentle man, he will be greatly missed by his family. He will be remembered most for his devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren!
He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Virginia; daughters, Judy Lundell of Minneapolis, Joyce (Chuck) Fox of Northfield, and Barb (Marty) Kehren of Lake City; three grandchildren, Kevin (Ildiko) Fox, Courtney (Randy) Dickey and Tanya (Jon) Huneke; four step grandchildren, Taylor, Makenna, Garrett and Amaya; two brothers, Lyle Lundell of Cannon Falls, and Harlan “Bud” (Virginia) Lundell of Cannon Falls; sisters, Carol Schlick of Minneapolis and Phyllis (Robert) Ellingson of Battle Lake; sister-in-law, Margaret Lundell of Minneapolis; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Harvey Lundell; grandson, Lance David Kehren; parents, Carl and Florence Lundell; and brother, Gerald “Jerry” Lundell.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 220 W. Main St., Cannon Falls, with Pastor Barbara Martin officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30-11 a.m. on Friday. Military honors will follow the service at church. Interment of his cremated remains will then be held at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be grandchildren, Kevin and Ildiko Fox, Courtney and Randy Dickey, and Tanya and Jon Huneke.
Memorials are preferred to the First Congregational Church, the Shepherd Center, or the Angels Care Center.
