Billy Leach

November 5, 1946 — April 3, 2008

Billy Edmond Leach, age 61 of Owatonna, formerly of Alaska and most recently of the Red Wing Health Care Center, died on Thursday afternoon, April 3, 2008 in the emergency room at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center.



He was born on November 5, 1946 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of William and Wilda (Lumberry) Leach. He grew up and was educated there. He joined the US Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam and Germany, until his honorable discharge in 1974.



He moved to Alaska in 1980, where he had in recent years worked as a civil service mechanic at the Elmendorf Air Force Base, and met and married his wife of 22 years, Ebba (nee Lundell) Pederson.



They moved to Ninilchik, AK in 1992, retired and moved to Minnesota in 2005.



Billy enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and entertaining people. He also liked fishing, hunting, mechanic work, and vacationing in Mexico. He had spent recent winters in his second home in Kennedy, Alabama.



He was a life member of the VFW Post #10046 and the American Veterans Post #4, both in Soldotna, AK.



He is survived by his wife, Ebba of Owatonna; daughter, Paula of East Peoria, IL; sisters, Beverly (Roy) Keel of Elmwood, IL, Jane (Glen) Stripling, Janet (Joe) Smith, Linda Yancey, and Debbie Strickland, all of Belk, Alabama; brother, Donald of Monticello, GA; aunts, Ethyl and Betty of IL; step sons, Rance, Brian and Daryl Pederson and their families, all of Alaska; mother-in-law, Gladys Lundell of Red Wing and Cannon Falls; sister-in-law, Verna (Mort) Mortensen of Cottage Grove; brothers-in-law, Bert (Ann) Lundell and Glen (Linda) Lundell, all of Cannon Falls, Ed (Linda) Lundell of Sundance, WY, and Dale (Tamara) Lundell of Sterling, AK; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.



He was preceded in death by his parents; and one young sister, Anna Mae.



A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, April 8 at 12:45 p.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Assembly Area #5, with Pastor Gordon Gathright officiating.



Memorials are preferred to the VFW Post #10046, 134 Birch Lane, Soldotna, AK 99669.
