Betty Ann Pagel died Monday, May 18, 2009 from congestive heart failure at the Cannon Falls Hospital.
Betty was born on June 13, 1925 to Edward J. and Elizabeth (Irving) Ranfranz in Chicago, IL. After graduating from high school, Betty went to San Francisco, CA to work and live with an aunt. She met and dated Edward F. Pagel, who was stationed there in the Navy during WWII. Ed followed Betty back to Chicago after he was discharged from the Submarine division of the Navy and they were married June 1946 in Chicago, IL.
Upon finishing course work at the Chicago School of Watch Making, Ed and Betty moved back to Cannon Falls in 1954 and established Chicago Ed’s Jewelry store. Betty worked at the store as an owner-operator, clerk, and bookkeeper. She enjoyed being social with her friends, neighbors, and family. She loved to travel and visited many of the United States, Australia, and Poland. Betty was actively involved in Rachel Circle and the Sunday Brunch Group at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, Pine Creek Homemakers Extension Group, and the Tuesday Club. Betty volunteered extensively throughout the years. She served on the Cannon Falls Library Board and Stephen Ministry at church. She was an avid flower gardener, enjoyed playing cards (especially Hand and Foot). She is fondly remembered for her friendly banter.
Betty is survived by son, James E. (Lynette) Pagel of Cannon Falls; grandson, George E. Pagel of Minneapolis; son-in-law, Dennis O’Neill of Rochester Hills, MI; brother, James E. (Barb) Ranfranz of Cape Coral, FL; and many nieces and nephews from both the Ranfranz and Pagel families.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Herb Ranfranz; husband, Ed; and daughter, Beth O’Neill.
Service of Life and Resurrection will be held at First English Lutheran Church with Pastors Phil Ruud and Dan Forsgren presiding, Thursday, May 21st, at 2 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment at the Cannon Falls Cemetery will take place at a later date.
