Betty Lou Sparstad

Betty Sparstad, age 84, of Cannon Falls, died at Comforts of Home in Hudson, Wisconsin on October 25, 2023.    

Betty Lou Mildred (Taube) Sparstad was born May 20, 1939 in Cannon Falls, Minnesota to Herman and Mildred (Fredrickson) Taube. She was a lifetime member of St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, baptized on June 4, 1939 and confirmed on June 21, 1953.    

Betty graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1957. She went on to work at First National Bank for three and a half years and then remained at home for thirteen years to raise their two sons. In 1973 went to work at St. Ansgar's as an office administrator for 26 years and then took a part-time job at the Burkardt Law Firm before retiring.

She was united in marriage to Ernie Sparstad on September 27, 1958 at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church.

She was active in the church. She, along with Ernie, served as church school superintendents for eight years. She was treasurer for the memorial committee (10 years) and WELCA for many years. She served on the Welcome and Facilitating committee, was a member of Ruth Circle and their bible study. Also served and assisted at funerals and the altar guild.

Her hobbies were knitting and crocheting and made many prayer shawls for the church. For quiet time she liked to do word find puzzles, read, color, and play computer games. She enjoyed baking, and holidays were the most fun to make the many extra goodies. Much of her baking was shared with family and friends.

Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Dianne of Hudson, WI, and Timothy and Tonia of Oak Grove, MN; grandchildren, Brian, Sarah, Matthew (Maddie), Paul, Grant and Kallie; sister, Shirley Braun of St. Cloud; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and LuRene Taube of Cannon Falls; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dick and Laura Johnson of Red Wing; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ernie; her parents; and brother-in-law, Bill Braun.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 12:00 pm, with visitation from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
