Bernice Schumacher

Bernice Catherine Schumacher, age 97 of Red Wing and formerly of Goodhue, MN, died on Friday, April 21, 2017 at St. Crispin Care Center, Red Wing. Bernice was born on April 14, 1920 in Belvidere Township, MN the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Gleason) Wiebush. She married Levern Schumacher in 1939 and they moved to Vasa Township in April, 1946. They farmed most of their lives there, and were active members of Vasa Lutheran Church. She enjoyed dancing, reading, cooking and baking for her family, and needlework, including crocheting and embroidery. She is survived by daughter, Carol Borgstrom of Siren, WI and children, Brett, Bart and Lana; son, Larry (Karen) Schumacher of Big Stone City, SD and children, Richard and Corissa; daughter-in-law, Marie Schumacher of Goodhue and children, Jason, Andy and Beth; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Levern; son, Jim; sons-in-law, Earl Zimmerman and Bill Borgstrom; and five siblings, Mildred Breuer, Marjorie Holden, Melinda Wiebush, Donald Wiebush, and Harold Wiebush. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 25 from 10-11 a.m., with the funeral service at 11 a.m., at Vasa Lutheran Church. Following lunch at the Lutheran Center, interment will be at Burnside Cemetery, Red Wing. Active pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Hospice and Vasa Lutheran Church.
