Beatrice Johnson

Beatrice Sybil Irene Johnson, age 97 of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at her home at The View in Cannon Falls on Thursday afternoon, October 6, 2011. Beatrice was born on April 7, 1914 on the Johnson family homestead in Leon Township near Wastedo, where her father was born. Her parents were Philip G. and Mathilda (Follingstad) Johnson. As a young girl, she spoke Swedish and learned the customs and traditions of her grandfather's native land. She attended the Swedish Mission Church on County Road 9, and at the age of seven, she started attending Spring Garden Lutheran Church where she was later confirmed. Beatrice received her teacher's training and taught country school for twelve years in Districts 48, 46 and 39. She had also been employed in retail where she did office work. Beatrice was very dedicated to her family, and after her mother's death in 1967, Beatrice came home to live with her father and care for him while helping on the farm. After the death of her father in 1976, Beatrice and her sister, Lucile Swenson moved off the homestead and in to Cannon Falls. They have lived together ever since. She enjoyed traveling with her sister, and doing word-find puzzles. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage and enjoyed researching and learning about her family. Beatrice is survived by her sister, Lucile Swenson of The View in Cannon Falls; and her cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mathilda Johnson. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. at Spring Garden Lutheran Church, with Pastors Nick and Cindy Fisher-Broin officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wade Pince, Gary Otto, Paul Schafer, Jill Frederickson, Leon Hanson and Pastor Nick Fisher-Broin. Memorials are preferred to Spring Garden Lutheran Church.
