Arnold Sundheim

Arnold Sundheim, age 96 of Cannon Falls, died on Thursday afternoon, December 13, 2007 at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.



Arnold was born on May 21, 1911 in Sisseton, South Dakota, the son of July Eric Sundheim and Anna Marie (Bjerke) Sundheim. He attended school, but at an early age, was helping on the family farm.

He farmed all of his working life near Sisseton, SD, Froid, MT, and Cannon Falls, MN. He had always been active in churches where he resided, including Urland, Froid and St. Ansgar's Lutheran Churches.



Arnold married Gladys Madeline Schiell on February 15, 1934 at Millbank, South Dakota. They raised eight children together. On March 2, 1984, his wife of 50 years, Gladys died.

Arnold later married Joye Ann (nee Saunders) Carroll on August 9, 1984.



Arnold enjoyed many things...fishing, gardening, flowers, and making crafts!

Arnold will be remembered most for his loving and caring manner, and his honesty. A gentleman's handshake was his word! He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.



He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys; son, Gary; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and four sisters and six brothers.



He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Joye; eight children, Elvena (William) Schmugge of Cannon Falls, Arlene (Jerry) Sacks of Farmington, Donald (Darlene) Sundheim of Cannon Falls, Betty (Lee) Hanson of Frazee, MN, Rodney (Barb) Sundheim of Hastings, Rosemary (Pat) Slevin of Frazee and Joey (Stephany) Sundheim of Nashua, MT; daughter-in-law, Lillian Sundheim of Jamestown, ND; 30 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Rued and brother, Marvin (Grace) Sundheim, all of Froid, MT; thirteen step children, Bruce (Terri) Carroll of Minneapolis, Dennis Carroll, Steve (Nancy) Carroll, Mary (Joe) Mondry, Colleen (Bruce) Welt, Tim (Cindy) Carroll, all of Red Wing, Sue (Wayne) Barsness of Hayward, WI, Bonnie Viscount of Red Wing, Nancy Bussman of Rochester, Patricia (Mark) Baker of Hamburg, MN, Beth (Dale) Kruse and Peter (Lori) Carroll, all of Red Wing, and Lisa (Joel) Schafer of Owatonna; 29 step grandchildren and 21 step great-grandchildren.



Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 17 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gary Schulz officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-5 p.m., with a prayer service at 5 p.m., at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m.



Memorials are preferred to St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, Angels Care Center, and the American Diabetes Association.



Active pallbearers will be Jared Sachs, Jeremy Hince, Tim Sundheim, Karl Hanson, Reuben Sundheim, Todd Sundheim, Dallas Slevin, and Shane Sundheim. Honorary pallbearers will be Marie Sachs, Cheryl Hince, Debbie Sundheim, Karen Tappe, Julie Sundheim, Madeline Sundheim, Hannah Slevin and Jodi Newell.
