Ann Nygaard

Ann Helene "Aunt Ann" Nygaard, age 82 of Minneapolis, sister of local Olive (Vernon) Hupf of Randolph, died on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at United Hospital in St. Paul. Ann was born at home on May 12, 1929 in Watertown, SD, the daughter of Alonzo and Mollie (Vick) Nygaard. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1946 and went on to work with the Midland National Life Insurance Company in Watertown. She later moved to Sioux Falls, SD where she continued working with Midland. She moved to Minneapolis to be closer to her family, and worked at Northwestern National Life Insurance Company. She has resided there the past 25 years. To keep busy, she then worked for PiperJaffray, volunteered with the American Red Cross, and worked at Gopher State One Call. Ann had also been a judge at the Dakota County Fair and Cannon Valley Fair for the 4-H Cloverbuds. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in St. Paul. She loved her family, and enjoyed spending time with them. Aunt Ann was an avid fan of her great nieces and nephews and enjoyed all of their activities. For the past five years, she has truly loved caring for her special great nephews, Dylan and Cooper. She is survived by her sister, Olive (Vernon) Hupf of Randolph; many nieces and nephews and their families, including locals Jeannette (Robert) Sheehan of Rochester, Mary (Duane) Nelson of Winthrop, Kathy Neil of Randolph, John Hupf of Randolph and Linda "Libby" (Bryan) Tate of Rosemount; and sister-in-law, Hazel Nygaard of Watertown, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Alvin, Oscar, Andrew, and Odell Nygaard; nephews, Stephen Hupf and Dick Nygaard; and niece, Dyane Nygaard. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Northfield United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Maple St., Northfield, MN with Pastor Janet White officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery near Hampton, MN. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 9-10 a.m. Active pallbearers will be nephews and niece, John Hupf, AJ Neil, Erik Nelson, Andrew Sheehan, Randy and Duane Nygaard, and Ali (Nygaard) Peterson. Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
