Alvin Vieths

Alvin "Pa" Vieths, age 77 of Goodhue, died unexpectedly in Owatonna on Wednesday morning, May 21, 2008.



Alvin Aanard Vieths was born on February 27, 1931 in Red Wing, the son of August and Emma (Hinrichs) Vieths.



He attended country school. He started farming by working for various farmers, including Frank Parker. He also worked at the Red Wing Tannery, Goodhue Creamery, and was a Union carpenter at Prairie Island NSP Nuclear Plant.



He married Phyllis McCrae on December 9, 1950. Alvin and Phyllis have five children, and they later divorced.



While farming, he began recycling scap metal. Alvin was well-known in Southeastern Minnesota for being a "junk man."



Alvin loved his family, many friends, John Deere tractors, Ford pickup, his "scrap" and front end loader, auctions, and a good business deal.



Alvin is survived by his five children, Darrel (Sharon) of Goodhue, Marcia (Rick) Clemens of Goodhue, Darla of Zumbrota, Mark of Goodhue, and Lavon (Tom) Vieths-Augustine of Hager City, WI; seven grandchildren, Ricki (Charlie) Sibley, Cory (Lori) Clemens, Dustin Vieths, Brady Vieths, Matthew Vieths, Emma Augustine and Nina Augustine; five great-grandchildren, Alisa, Ashlay, and Austin Clemens, and Willie and Waylon Sibley; two step grandchildren, Tammy (Steve) Lexvold of Goodhue, and Tracy Klein of Wanamingo; four step great-grandchildren, Codey, Tyler, Samantha and Christina; sister, Mildred Luhman of Goodhue; brother, Arnold Vieths of Kenyon; special friend, Julia Perra of Goodhue; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Luverne and Maynard Vieths.



Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Minneola Lutheran Church, 13628 Co 50 Blvd, Goodhue, with Pastor Sarah Nietz officiating.

Interment will follow at the Zumbrota Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday, all at the church.



Active pallbearers will be Dean Luhman, Randal Luhman, Gary Vieths, Larry Vieths, Jimmy Miller and John Logan. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Ricki Sibley, Cory Clemens, Dustin Vieths, Brady Vieths, Matthew Vieths, Emma Augustine and Nina Augustine.
