Alvin Richard Dicke, age 95, a longtime resident of Goodhue, died peacefully at home on Wednesday morning, February 21, 2024.
Alvin was born on September 8th, 1928 to Fredrick and Anna (Strusz) Dicke in Featherstone Township. He was confirmed on March 29, 1942 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek. Al graduated from Red Wing High School in 1946. He worked on his parent's farm and for other area farmers before being drafted during the Korean War (1951 - 1953) and served within the Military Intelligence Department. Following his honorable discharge he worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Red Wing before his employment at Goodhue State Bank in 1954. Al started his career as a cashier and worked his way up to Bank President before retiring in 1990. He married Grace Buck on June 16, 1956 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue. They were married for 67 years and were blessed with three children, Grant, Janis and Craig.
During his lifetime, Al enjoyed golf, bowling, hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, reading, crossword puzzles, singing, playing euchre with his card club, watching Vikings football, and watching his children and grandchildren's activities. He was active in community service as a member of the Lion's Club, Civic Club, City Council, and a founding member of the Goodhue Historical Society. He also drove for Meals on Wheels. He was also active in his church, singing in the choir and serving on the church council.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Grace; sons, Grant (Kris) and Craig; daughter, Janis Naig (Greg); grandchildren, Alysha Dicke (James), Chelsea Yilmaz (Selim), Jonathan Dicke, and Elizabeth Dicke; step-grandchildren, Gretchen (Daria), Heather (Jason), Laura (David), and Cody (Samantha); great-grandsons, Evren and Emre Yilmaz; step-great-grandchildren, Ava, Ashtyn, Zoey, Cyrus, Elliott, and Jacob; brothers, Glenn (Janet) and Lloyd (Mary); sisters, Arlene Hadler, Lois Klair (Stanley) and Ruth Alms (Myron); brothers-in-law, Roger Buck (Margie), Roy Buck (Dorothy) and Dallas Buck (Judy); sister-in-law, Arenda Frederick; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Anna; brother, Leonard (Burnetta); sister, Evelyn Meyer (Russell); and brother-in-law, Harvey Hadler.
The family wants to thank Mayo Hospice staff, especially Greg and Chaundra, for their loving care.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 1 from 4:00-7:00 pm at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Goodhue. A memorial service will be on Saturday, March 2 at 2:00 pm, with visitation from 1:00-2:00 pm, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. This service will be live-streamed and available to watch below. Interment with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue. A reception will follow the service and burial at the Lions Community Center in Goodhue.
Memorials may be directed to the Goodhue Historical Society or to donor's choice.
