Althea Slingsby age 90 of Argusville, ND passed away early Tuesday morning November 8, 2011 at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Althea had resided at Angels Care Center for the last two years. Althea Marie Erickson was born February 14, 1921 to Marcus and Amanda (Johnson) Erickson in Cormorant Township, Becker County, Minnesota. She was the 5th child born to this couple - Enoch, Robert, Judith (Peterson), and Minnie (Peterson); all now deceased.
Althea attended grade school District 50 in Cormorant Township, and graduated from Lake Park High School in 1938. She attended two years at Moorhead State Teachers College. She taught school for ten years before changing occupations by going into secretarial work. She worked for West Fargo Mfg. Co. and Wesgo Co. for 14 yrs and J.I. Case Co. for 9 years.
She married Roy Syvertson on November 24, 1962 at Sisseton, SD. They lived in Moorhead, MN. He died 9 years later on November 7, 1971. She then married Allan Slingsby on July 13, 1974 and moved to Argusville, ND. Althea enjoyed gardening and playing music at church. She played piano and organ for the Argusville United Church of Christ and at the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints in Fargo. Althea loved spending time with her family and her cats. Allan died on April 4, 2005.
Althea is survived by her step children, Dorothy (Syvertson) Block of Detroit Lakes, Donald Syvertson of Lake Park, Kenneth (Joan) Slingsby of Welch, Ruth (Larry) Lawrence of Farmington and Ernest Slingsby of Egypt; step grandchildren, Justin Slingsby, Karl Slingsby, Sarah Brod, and Brianne Lawrence; two step great-grandsons, Miles Slingsby and Finnigan Brod; and three step great-granddaughters, Harper and Eden Brod, and Nina Slingsby. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Argusville United Church of Christ in Argusville, ND. A private family inurnment will be held Moorhead Memorial Gardens in Moorhead, MN.
