Allen Ohnstad, age 71, of Faribault and formerly of Cannon Falls, died Thursday, August 8, 2024 in Faribault.
Allen William Ohnstad was born on October 29, 1952 in Red Wing, the son of Marvin and Viola (Sager) Ohnstad. He grew up and went to school in Cannon Falls. Al worked for Pro Act in Re Wing for a number of years and had lived in various locations including Wanamingo, Rochester, Richfield, and Faribault.
Al loved wrestling, old westerns especially Gunsmoke and Tom Hanks movies. Forest Gump was his favorite movie. Enjoyed movies music in the park, going to Cabela’s and shopping. Loved to go on rides during harvest time and would marvel at the large farm equipment. On his good days he loved to tease staff and could be quick to flirt with the ladies with his winks and smooches. We would melt looking into those beautiful blue eyes. He was also very good at letting staff know if he was displeased about something. He had a rebel yell…He loved watching the neighborhood dogs and visits from staff dogs and his special Izzy the therapy dog. Al loved to tell stories of Cannon Falls. He would very clearly say In Cannon Falls… or look at someone and say I know you with a grin on his face, then fill in the details with his own colorful language. He was tight with his hugs but on occasion would try best he could to open his arms wide for you. We will miss his ”now what” and high-flying finger salutes, his beautiful blue eyes and his ability to make us care and love him. We will miss our pal Al.
Survivors include his nephews Brad Mickelson of Red Wing and Jeff (Veronica) Mickelson of Goodhue, great-nephew Carson Mickelson, and various other relatives. Al was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Marlys (Clarence) Mickelson.
Al’s family would like to thank his caregivers at MSOCS 7th Ave. in Faribault as well as the staff of Minnesota Hospice.
