Alex G. Hanson

Alex Gilbert Hanson, age 36 of Cannon Falls, died at his home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday morning, December 20, 2023.

Alex was born on July 19, 1987 in Red Wing, the son of Paul and Terri (Murphy) Hanson. He grew up in Wanamingo, running around town having fun with Chris, Andrew, Mitch, John, Joe, Greg and Dan. Then switched schools where he added to his best friend list of Matt and Phil and graduated from Farmington High School in 2005.

He married Jennifer Olson on June 2, 2017 at Legacy Hill Farm in Welch, and they have two beautiful children together. He enjoyed watching his daughter Briella’s dance recitals, and Brycen’s first season of tee-ball. He spent every moment he could with them. They were his world. He enjoyed singing with his children and playing games with them.

Alex was a man full of snark and humor. He loved to make people laugh. He was so full of love for others and would help anyone who needed it.

He worked at the Canadian Pacific Railroad for many years, and also found time to enjoy playing volleyball, softball, bean bags, and his weird bowling thing. He also loved to follow his Twins, Vikings, and Timberwolves and pretty much anything Minnesota. Alex enjoyed anything that was competitive. He enjoyed spending time at the cabin, fishing, and sitting around the fire. Anyone who knew him, loved him. He had a way of bringing everyone together.

He was a member of Minneola Lutheran Church, Goodhue.

Alex lived his life the way he wanted, and leaves many memories to cherish.

He is survived by his wife, Jen; daughter, Briella (5 yr) and son, Brycen (4 yr); parents, Paul and Terri Hanson of Wanamingo; brother, Blake and Jen Hanson of Kenyon; grandparents, Wayne Hanson of Mona, IA, Reuben Murphy and Arthur Osmundson, both of Austin, MN; parents-in-law, Kari and Mark Packa of Cannon Falls and Todd Olson of Hastings; sisters-in-law, Matt and Jess Bartell of Eau Claire, WI, Mandy Olson of Annandale, and Joe and Kelly Conner of Cannon Falls; brother-in-law, Brandon Olson of Cannon Falls; fourteen nieces and nephews, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his three dogs, Monkey, Bentley and Lily.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sharon Osmundson, Mavis Hanson, Ann Murphy and Terrence Prahl; childhood friend, Gregory Greseth; and Great Dane, Penelope.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 26 from 4-7 pm at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls. Please wear clothing to represent your favorite team.

The funeral service will be held at St. Ansgar's on Wednesday, Dec. 27 at 11:00 am, with visitation from 10-11 am. This service will be live-streamed and available to watch below. Interment will follow at Minneola Lutheran Cemetery, Goodhue.

Active casket bearers will be John Welzant, Phil Sell, Matt Mahowald, Joe Sabin, Justin Tatge, Brandon Olson, Blake Hanson, Joe Conner, Chris Tews, Mitch Ryan, Andrew Carlson and Sam Haugen.

Honorary casket bearers will be his loves, Briella and Brycen.
